Installation
What software do I need to install to use DashPort Explorer?
You need to install the Adobe AIR runtime version 1.5 or later and the DashPort Explorer AIR application on every desktop that will use DashPort Explorer. In addition, the DashPort Explorer package must be installed in your salesforce organization and every user must be granted access to the package and its components.
Why is the DashPort Explorer package not publicly listed on AppExchange?
Because DashPort Explorer is primarily a desktop application we have chosen not to publicly list it on AppExchange at this time. The privately listed DashPort Explorer package on AppExchange is provided primarily as a means of managing licenses for DashPort Explorer from within your salesforce organization. We may choose to publicly list the application on the AppExchange in the future based upon customer feedback.
Why do I see a security warning when installing the DashPort Explorer package on AppExchange?
Salesforce.com reviews the security of an application as part of the process for publicly listing an application on AppExchange. Because we have chosen not to publicly list DashPort Explorer at this time, salesforce has not completed a security review. Rest assured, we take security very seriously and are confident we would pass salesforce's stringent review process. We have other applications on the AppExchange that have been reviewed and approved without any issues. Please read the Security section of this FAQ for more information about security.
User Accounts
What priveleges does a salesforce.com user need to use DashPort Explorer?
Each user requires API access and access to the Dashboards tab in the user interface.
Can I have more than one salesforce.com user account in DashPort Explorer?
At this time DashPort Explorer is limited to one salesforce.com account. You can change the account information at anytime, but any dashboard snapshots you have taken will be lost if the new account is part of a different salesforce.com organization.
Security
How do you protect my salesforce username and password from being compromised?
We never store your salesforce username, password, or security token in plain text on your computer's hard drive. DashPort Explorer uses Adobe AIR's encrypted local store capabilities to safely protect your salesforce credentials. Adobe's technology uses operating system specific methods to store the information. Specifically, Adobe AIR uses DPAPI on Windows, KeyChain on Mac OS, and KeyRing or KWallet on Linux to associate the encrypted local store to each application and user. The encrypted local store uses AES-CBC 128-bit encryption.
How do you protect my dashboards and related data from being compromised?
DashPort Explorer stores all of your dashboard snapshots in a locally encrypted database. The database is encrypted using the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) with Counter with CBC-MAC (CCM) mode. The database encryption key is randomly generated when an account is created, the encryption key is stored in the same encrypted local store used to store your salesforce username, password, and security token.
